Urban Oasis – The Day Osaka

Planning a visit to Universal Studios Japan or the upcoming World Expo 2025? Or perhaps after a day of exploring the vibrant cityscape of Osaka, you’re looking for a serene escape – without leaving the city? Look no further than The Day Osaka (formerly Hotel Lodge Maishima), a surprisingly lovely urban oasis.

Nestled on reclaimed land in Osaka Bay, this hidden gem offers a nature-infused retreat amidst the hustle and bustle of Japan’s second largest city.

The owner has meticulously cultivated a beautiful seaside resort, transforming nearly 10 acres into a lush ‘Forest Garden.’ This tranquil haven is adjacent to expansive sports facilities and features meandering walking paths lined with a wide variety of trees and flowering plants.

The paths lead past a large fire pit, 15 cozy log cabins, a small lake, the boutique hotel ‘Nest,’ a BBQ area, and a spacious main building with a variety of comfortable and affordable accommodation options.

One of the resort’s standout experiences is dining under the stars at their 500-seat BBQ area. Whether you prefer to ‘do it yourself’ with the resort’s fully equipped BBQ setup or indulge in a private chef’s culinary expertise, you’re in for a memorable feast.

For daytime activities, guests can enjoy cycling, paragliding, badminton, table tennis, and more. The main building houses a delightful public bath, a cozy library-lounge, and a restaurant offering both indoor and outdoor dining options.

The resort also offers a range of complimentary perks, including a whimsical ‘Cumulonimbus’ show on the lawn, a welcome tea service, marshmallow roasting, an evening drink, and during the summer months, a trio of fireworks sparklers for each guest.

From many of the rooms and the public balcony at Nest, you can enjoy ocean views and breathtaking sunsets. Early risers will also be rewarded with an impressive sunrise. *Take in the view as you drink a tasty craft beer and appetizer!

Conveniently located just a 10-minute drive or taxi ride from Universal Studios Japan (or next year’s Expo), Hotel Lodge Maishima is also easily accessible by bus.

As you approach the resort, you might worry about its industrial surroundings, filled with warehouses and distribution centers. However, this is what makes Hotel Lodge Maishima so extraordinary—it is a surprising green sanctuary amidst an urban landscape.

It’s a unique accommodation choice for couples, families, or large groups, whether for a single night or an extended stay.

Note: I visited Hotel Lodge Maishima on a paid business trip, where I provided feedback on their strengths and on areas to be improved. Writing about the resort wasn’t part of my assignment, but I was impressed and felt compelled to share this hidden treasure with others!
