In the far north of Kyoto Prefecture, along the edge of one of UNESCO’s ‘World’s Most Beautiful Bays’ sits the village of Ine. 230 funaya (traditional boat houses) from the Edo Period still line the shore. Ideal geography has protected them from the Japan Sea’s harsh winter swells. The village is a fantastic ‘get away from it all’ location for your bucket list!
On your visit, take a boat cruise, go fishing, try sea kayaking, and/or rent a bicycle to explore the village. Be sure to dine on locally caught seafood and locally grown vegetables. In addition, stop by and sample the sake of Mukai Shuzo – a top-class brewery with a female master brewer. Then, stay overnight in a renovated Funaya!
A personal ‘don’t miss’… stop for tea and a treat at Taiwan Tea Shop Chinzao
